Now don’t get me wrong, I like a bit of Buckley as much as the next person. But hearing grace on repeat at 9 in the morning does not exactly bring a cheery start to the day. And it is kind of spoiling Grace for me. : (

The Vangard -- Syd

Went to Syd on the weekend with The Ashbury boys and lovely Rose, we had a fantastic time it was very relaxing just hanging around and going to the gig. The boys played at the Vanguard with Ice Cream Hands. The Vanguard is a very strange venue, it’s a little like Tillys but smaller and it has a second level that you can sit and watch from if your not eating dinner, I think it use to be an old cabaret theatre or something.

Rose and I were a bit worried because it was a very different kind of audience, compared to the kind The Ashburys usually play too, but it all went great. Ice Cream hands were fantastic to watch and are all lovely chaps.
Rose and I discovered a new kind of tequila it is called Rose tequila so we had to try some, it is kind of milky like baileys and tastes like strawberry milk mixed with rose water mixed with tequila. Sounds kind of eww but it was very tasty.

Will post some cool pics soon : )

I started to make a led hula hoop last night. I learnt two very important facts:

1. Never sneeze with a soldering iron in your hand.(especially if it has molten solder on it) It will flick all over your hand and leg.

2. Don't start electronic projects late in the night when your brain is dead because you will spend 2 hours trying to figure out why things aren’t working. Then you will realise that for some silly reason you attached both the positive and negative leads of the battery to the switch and your battery is about to implode and begins to leak acid.

Well the good news is I finally have a rough idea of when this foot related hell will be over, the bad news is it involves another 6 weeks on crutches.

I go in for surgery on the 15th of august Just after my birthday (hint hint : p ). This is the gross sounding part, they are going to cut my foot open in two places once over my break and the other in my heel. Then they are going to take a teeny chunk of bone from my heel and graft it to the foot bone. Then last of all they are going to put a big huge pin in it to hold it all together while it heals.

I’m a little scared because I have only had real non dental related surgery one other time, I was four so I don’t really remember that. Oh and when I was 5 I had a general anaesthetic so they could set my femur bone when I broke that. So other than those which I don’t really remember I don’t really know what to expect.

I’m sure it will all be fine, at least I get a week off work to laze around and get better. Yay !!

Oh and I’m going to take some overlocker classes while my foot is getting better so when I’m done I’ll be a costuming fiend.

Went to The Venue for the first time last night. I was impressed by the set up and the nice looking stage, very professional. I was also excited to get the chance to see three Canberra bands that I really enjoy.

But that is about where the enjoyment stopped. I was utterly appalled at the quality of mixing it was disrespectful, to the bands that played and to the local music scene in general. I’m usually not too fussy about the mix but this was disgusting. I can safely say that it was the most pathetic attempt at mixing I have heard EVER, hands down. It seemed that not only had the sound guy not ever mixed a show before but he had not even been to a live gig. I have heard better mixes in a garage with tiny PA.

The Venue, I applauded your booking of local acts but if you are not going to give them the chance to actually sound good I don’t really see the point.

Too top off the night there were staff members smoking in the gig room. If everyone else can manage to drag themselves outside in to the cold for a cigarette I’m sure you can too.

If you like pina colada and spinning poi in the rain

Well last night was good fun. I was expecting to just head home and hang around doing not much all night. But instead we (John and I) went down the pot belly for a quite beer with Sam which then turned into going back to Sam’s to get some records and then spending an hour teaching Alex some Poi moves in the freezing cold. It was all very fun especially the Poi part, that was the best. Also Alex picked up the poi moves very quickly, usually it takes a lot longer for people to get use to the way they move, I was very impressed.

I’m of to medi-care now to hope fully get some monies back from all of my busted foot appointments, Fingers crossed : ).

Well I didn't get the good news that I was hoping for, the doctor wants me to wait a whole month longer before getting the surgery. It kind of makes sense because there is a chance that it won't work. But it really annoyed me, I don't think either of my doctors take me seriously when I refer to circus training and how strong I need to be and how many important training things I'm missing, I mean if i were a football player or some thing they would have listened and did what they could to get me back training as fast as possible. They would not even tell me what I could and could not do, so I don't know what things I can train or what things are to risky.

I decided to at least have a little go a some hooping today because i could not handle it any longer, I mostly did arm tricks but I did get a trick that I have been trying to learn for ages. I nailed the one shoulder duck out like in this video.

<lj-embed id="4" />

oh I just found out that the pot belly has been sold, I hope it stays the fantastic little pub that it always has been.
Yay!! i finaly got my lasso in the mail. Well it is just lasso rope but i
made it in to a lasso last night. I'm not very good at it any more but
that maybe beacuse of my busted foot stoping me from standing properly and
also the rop is really new and hasn't really been broken in yet.

Last night i managed to do a wedding ring which is where the rope is going
around your body.

Jane

*********************************************************************************************
"Important: This transmission is intented only for the use of the addressee and may contain confidential or legally privileged information.
Roll up, roll up, come see the bearded lady, the amazing sword swallowing man. [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Yay and boo.
Yay!!! cos I just finished reading a cool book on side shows and their
history and stuff and book because there is no more of the cool book left
to read. : (
Any who I would like to impart some cool side show knowledge upon all
those reading (yes that would be assuming some body reads this but eeh oh
well)

Side show slang:

Ten in one: a ten in one is a side show where you pay one admission to see
ten acts or curios

Single-o: as you may guess a single- o is a side show that consists of one
act or attraction.

Geek: that’s right the word geek was originally a side show term for a man
often billed as a “wild man” whose act would include things like eating
raw meat and bitting the heads of live chickens and stuff. That’s where
the term freaks and geeks comes from.

Gaff: gaff is the term used to describe a fake or trick side show stunt.
For example the famous magicians trick of sawing a woman in half is
refers to as a gaff because it is a set up trick.

Pickled punk: this refers to any display that was preserved in a bottle.

Bouncers: are gaffed oddities made out of rubber, they get this name
because un like really oddities they will bounce when dropped.

First i have to get a pin in my foot now I don't have to get a pin in my
foot but if it hasn't healed in three weeks i have to get a bone graft.
*shudder* I don't know which i liked better at least with a pin i would
know when i can walk on my foot again.

I think I'm slowly going insane not being able to train or even just
practice for fun, I never realised what a large part of my life circus is.
But i have been doing a lot of sewing which is good because i usually
don't have time to do any at all. I have made two sets of wristy cuffs
green stripes and grey and black striped ones, the green ones even have
little bows and I'm in the process of making a grey and red hoodie from
www.fitzpatterns.com.au. It is going to be so super snugly when it is
done. If it goes well I'm going to get another pattern from there.

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn't the same.

Yup that's right I broke my foot.

It happened when I was at circus training on Monday night. Nope it didn't happen doing hand springs or back flips, and it didn't happen doing wacky circus stunts. It happened changing a CD.

The story:
So while on my lunch break on Monday I was perusing the Cd's at Cash'em in, when I spotted the sound track to Chicago, Thinking it would be fun to listen too whilst training I bought it.
Half way through training I noticed the Cd that was playing had finished and thought this would be the opportune time to try out my new Cd. So I put on the new Cd and decided it would be funny to dance around can can style, That is when it happened, I rolled my foot under and heard it pop. I knew it was broken as soon as I heard that sound.

After the usual freaking out and ice packs John came to take me to the hospital, We then spent the next 5 hours waiting to see a doctor just to find out that we would have to come back in the morning to have an X-ray. So we came back the next day got an x-ray fairly quickly but then had to wait another 6 hours to see the doctor again.

Today we went to see a sports physician and find out the damage. At the moment it looks like i will be out of action for a while and i'm gonna have to get a big pin in my foot so that it heels properly.

One think I must say thought i don't know what i would have done with out my Squishie John boy, He has been looking after me so well, Taking me to appointments, cheering me up when my foot hurts and carrying me to the car when i was too tired to walk.
